The atmosphere of this album is fantastic. Makes you feel like you're knee-deep in the trenches drenched in mud, filth, sweat, and blood. Truly encapsulates the horrors of World War I, and the fact that the lyrics of some of the songs are taken from old war letters really adds to the authenticity. It's weird, I spent a lot of time with "Devour the Sun", but for some reason, each album after, much less time was spent. Now at the end of 2023 I've been really sinking into Vvilderness' albums. They're each equally incredible works of art. At first listen, maybe one or two songs might grab me, but then after giving the full album a listen a handful of times, it gets harder to pick a favorite.
